Research Interest

Chronical inflammatory skin disease and comorbidities. Pathogenetically, psoriasis is a multisystem disease, analogous to other chronic inflammatory immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. These disorders are also associated with a risk for accelerated development of atherosclerosis, and entail a significantly increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. On an experimental and clinical as well as an epidemiological basis, a significant cluster of inflammatory diseases has been defined, which is characterized by a proinflammatory cytokine profile and proatherogenic (metabolic) conditions. In particular, this cluster includes diseases related to the metabolic syndrome as well as autoimmune and psychiatric disorders.
