Ph.D. Retreat
An important component of our Ph.D. Program is the annual Ph.D. Retreat. All of our graduate students are required to attend the one to three day retreat whereby they have the opportunity to present their research to colleagues, faculty members, and invited speakers and profit from their experience.
The format of the retreat, tailored according to the needs of the doctoral candidates, fosters the interactions between young researchers working at different institutions.

The 2023 Ph.D. Retreat took place from July 2nd to July 5th, 2023 at the Schliersberg Alm in Schliersee. After the 2016 and 2017 retreats having been held there, it was wonderful to return to this marvelous location!

The 2022 Ph.D. Retreat took place from July 10th to July13th, 2022 at the Hotel Jäger von Fall in Lenggries-Fall. The picture-perfect location made us decide to hold our face-to-face event there again this year after hosting two pandemic retreats.

The 2021 Ph.D. Retreat took place from June 7th to June 10th, 2021 – and could be held at least as a combined, i. e. hybrid event, with two days in person in the lecture halls of the Klinikum Großhadern, plus two online days via zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions thereto.
28 students, several supervisors, two alumni and four guest speakers enriched the Ph.D. retreat, thus allowing a vivid exchange, interaction, and fruitful results.

The 2020 Ph.D. Retreat took place from July 6th to July 7th, 2020 – as first online retreat via Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thirty students, seven supervisors and two guest speakers joined the Ph.D. retreat which allowed a vivid exchange and interaction despite the difficult situation due to the pandemic.

The 2019 Ph.D. Retreat took place from June 23rd to June 26th, 2019 at the Hotel Jäger von Fall in Lenggries-Fall. Located directly at the beautiful Sylvensteinsee, the hotel offered everything – tranquility, recreation, and lake, river, and mountain activities, just to mention a few.

The 2018 Ph.D. Retreat took place from June 3rd to June 6th at the Eibseehotel. Located directly at the beautiful Eibsee, at the foot of the Zugspitze, the hotel offered everything – tranquility, recreation, lake and mountain activities, just to mention few.

The 2017 PhD Retreat took place from June 18th to 21st in the Alpine foothills above Schliersee, at the Schliersbergalm Hotel.

The PhD Retreat 2016 took place from June 20-23 at Schliersbergalm. Beautiful surroundings and peacefulness of the house on top of a hill, far away from the daily rush created a perfect atmosphere for vivid discussions during the talks and outside the seminar room.
