Ph.D. Retreat 2019 - Hotel Jäger von Fall, June 23 - 26

The 2019 Ph.D. Retreat took place from June 23rd to June 26th, 2019 at the Hotel Jäger von Fall in Lenggries-Fall. Located directly at the beautiful Sylvensteinsee, the hotel offered everything – tranquility, recreation, and lake, river, and mountain activities, just to mention a few.

In addition to the presentations of the Ph.D. projects, we had the opportunity to listen to a talk given by Dr. Michael Laxy from Helmholtz Zentrum München, about an economic perspective on diabetes prevention and management. Prof. Ulrich Mansmann from IBE discussed the advantages and disadvantages of P-value and its application in research.

We also had a career planning session, with a talk given by Dr. Isolde von Bülow (Graduate Center LMU) and a panel discussion. The panel participants - Dr. von Bülow, Prof. Eva Rehfuess (IBE), Prof. Mansmann, Dr. Laxy, and three of our students who work in industry - not only shared their personal experience, but had a very lively discussion with the students about the career in and outside academia.

Due to great summer weather we could also enjoy the lake and the mountains around. For some of the students a walk along the lake was way too boring, thus, despite the heat, they decided to climb up to the nearby summit.
