Content and Teaching format

Flipped classroom (12 ECTS)

  • Statistics for clinical trials (3 ECTS)
  • Statistics for diagnostic studies (3 ECTS)
  • Longitudinal data analysis (3 ECTS)
  • Statistics learning, especially for high-dimensional data (3 ECTS)
  • Survival analysis (3 ECTS)

Students have to choose 4 out of the 5 offered topics (or - in case of PhD students - only 3 topics if they need 9 ECTS, 2 if they need 6 ECTS, 1 if they need 3 ECTS). During an introductory lecture, students receive materials on the chosen topics in the form of lecture slides and books, as well as exercise sheets. They have to submit the solutions of the exercise sheets before fixed deadlines. These exercise sheets are not graded. They are intended as a communication support between teacher(s) and students and a way for students to know what they are expected to achieve within the module. Every week the solutions of the exercise sheets are discussed after submission during an in-person meeting. Additionally, there is a weekly online Q & A session to discuss students' questions on the exercize sheet they are currently working on.

Seminar (6 ECTS)

Students take part in a seminar, possibly jointly with students of statistics. They have to 1) summarize one or several papers presenting and applying complex statistical methods in an oral presentation (ca. 25 minutes) and 2) write a short homework summarizing other participants’ presentations. The papers are assigned during the introductory meeting of the seminar (students’ preferences are taken into account as far as possible).

Performance record Flipped classroom: Oral examination of 40 minutes in total (10 minutes by topic) on the contents of the corresponding exercise sheets.
Seminar: Oral presentation (accounting for 75% of the mark) and homework (accounting for 25% of the mark).
